A senior technology leader on call, without the full-time hire
Many established companies need a technology leader but not a full-time executive. We act as your fractional CTO: setting the roadmap, vetting vendors, challenging proposals and reporting to ownership in plain language. We are independent, so our advice does not depend on selling you the build.
Sound familiar?
Situations this work is built for. If a few of them describe your operation, you are on the right page.
We have three vendor proposals and no way to judge them.
The board keeps asking what our AI strategy is.
We are buying a company and have no idea what its systems are worth.
Our IT person is great, but there is nobody above them to set direction.
What we build
- Technology roadmap
- A multi-year plan tied to operational goals, with sequencing, owners, and a budget range you can defend to ownership.
- Vendor selection and contract review
- Requirements, demos, reference checks and scored comparisons for ERP, WMS, TMS and other platforms, plus a technical read of the contract before you sign.
- Build versus buy decisions
- A written recommendation on each major system, with total cost, risk and exit options set out side by side.
- AI readiness
- An honest look at your data, processes and people to find the few places AI can pay off first, and the many places it cannot yet.
- Acquisition due diligence
- Technical review of a target's systems, data, security, licenses and key-person risk, delivered as a short report in language a deal team can use.
- Board reporting and hiring
- Quarterly reporting on spend, risk and progress, and help defining, recruiting and onboarding your in-house technology team.
How the work runs
Assessment
2–3 weeksWe interview leadership and the people who run your systems, review contracts, spend and architecture, and deliver a written findings report with a prioritized roadmap.
Plan and decide
3–6 weeksWe turn the roadmap into funded decisions: vendor shortlists, build-versus-buy calls, a hiring plan and the first quarter of work, agreed with you and your leadership team.
Advisory
MonthlyA standing monthly engagement with a fixed number of hours: steering meetings, vendor oversight, project reviews, and reporting to your owners or board.
Handover
4–8 weeksWhen your full-time leader is hired, we hand over the roadmap, vendor relationships and documentation, and step back or stay on as a sounding board.
Tools we commonly use

Questions buyers ask
What does a fractional CTO actually do?
A fractional CTO provides senior technology leadership for a fixed monthly commitment instead of a full-time salary. That means owning the roadmap, guiding vendor and build decisions, managing technology risk, and reporting to ownership. You get the judgment of an executive for the part of the week you need it.
How is this different from a consulting project?
A project ends with a deliverable, while advisory is an ongoing relationship. After the assessment we meet on a regular cadence and are available as questions come up. A common path is to start with an assessment and move to advisory once the roadmap is agreed.
Are you independent of the vendors you recommend?
Yes. We do not take referral fees or resell software, and we tell you when our own build services are not the right answer. If we recommend that we build something, we state that conflict plainly and you can take the specification to anyone.
Can you help with technology due diligence on an acquisition?
Yes. We review the target's systems, data, security practices, licensing and key-person dependence, then write a short report with the risks and likely integration costs. Timelines are set by the deal, and we work under NDA with your deal team.
